Distributors and multi-supplier sellers receive product data as PDF catalogs and spec sheets, one format per supplier, none of them matching your store. Someone retypes the name, SKU, dimensions, material, and price into a spreadsheet, supplier after supplier, product after product. It is slow, error-prone, and never finished. A real onboarding is twenty spec sheets, three of which come back messy, and black-box SaaS PIM onboarding tools still charge per-product subscriptions, hold your catalog on their servers, and make you map columns by hand.

Honest limitations
- Exports import files (CSV/JSON) only — no live storefront API sync
- Confidence scores are heuristic, computed offline from parse quality; they are not reported by the AI model and are not probabilities of correctness, just a review-priority signal
- Woo/Shopify column sets need verification against your store's current import format before a production import
- Batches process one file per request by design for shared hosting; a 20-file batch means 20 model calls at your own provider cost, and the auto-advance page must stay open
- BYO key: you need an OpenAI or Anthropic API key, or a local Ollama with a vision model
- Multi-page PDFs work best with Anthropic's native document support; other providers are best-effort on PDFs
- Single-tenant: one admin account per installation
- No OCR built in — relies on the AI model's vision capability
- Extraction accuracy is not guaranteed for any specific format, language, or catalog

Frequently asked questions
Is my API key safe?
Your key is stored in your database on your own server and is transmitted only in the outbound HTTPS request you trigger to your chosen AI provider. It is never logged, echoed, or passed through any Specta infrastructure.
Will this run on shared hosting?
Yes. Specta requires PHP 8+ with pdo, curl, and fileinfo — extensions present on virtually all cPanel/Plesk hosts. Installation takes about two minutes through the web installer.
What about columns not covered by WooCommerce or Shopify?
Every attribute column is preserved. In WooCommerce they become product attribute columns; in Shopify they fold into a spec list in the description; in plain CSV/JSON they're first-class columns.
Does Specta sync live to my storefront?
No — Specta exports WooCommerce CSV, Shopify CSV, plain CSV, or JSON import files that you import yourself; there is no direct live-sync to a storefront API.
What if a provider changes pricing or its API?
You can switch providers in Settings in under a minute. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Ollama are all supported, and Ollama runs locally with no per-call cost.
